Its All Happening Here

Hello Blog Fans

Did you miss me last week? Dadabulous was incredulous about the outpouring of protest when I declared my intention to scale my blogging back to the bare minimum. He has so little faith in my capacity to rule the bloggy universe. I can only conclude he sticks with me because of my hawtness.

This week has been busy. Its all happening here at Chez Abulous. As my attention has been split in six different directions I haven’t had the mental resources to conjure up an entertaining and/or controversial topic to write about. Nor have I had time to go crumpeteering* on the interwebs. (Ok – maybe I had a quick peek at Colin Firth and Ben Whitshaw) Therefore I will resort to being the type of blogger the GOMI crowd love to hate – theย privileged but bored middle class housewife who tediously regales her readers (all 12 of them) with the banal details of her tiresome life. Are you ready to rock?!

This week Dababulous turned 45 – which either means he has hit his masculine prime or he is on the verge of purchasing a convertible sports car and racing off with his secretary. I support the former scenario. Besides he doesn’t have a secretary. I will permit the hiring of a secretary when he relents on the gardener issue.

Dadabs wont let me have one of these. BTW - nice shears.

I took Dadabs out for a romantic dinner for two at a suitably manly location – Kingsleys Steak and Crabhouse at the Finger Wharf. Its a fancy pants restaurant but its not for wimps. Indeed its the kind of place where the wait staff look like they’ve just stepped out of the saddle and all your meaty fantasies are indulged. Check out this bad boy.

The Silky rib eye

What? Were you expecting some beefy waiter ๐Ÿ˜‰

We had the surreal pleasure of dining on premium steak the with the consistency of silk albeit rich and meaty silk, whilst the ALP leadership spill and the State of Origin played out on a large screen TV overhead. I’m sure there’s a metaphor in there somewhere.

Being the adoring wife that I am I showered Dadabulous with gifts. The question is what do you get for a software guru who has just collided with his the prime of his life? You kit him up with gear from ThinkGeek*of course. ย We were both tickled pink with these Star Trek pyjamas. I have always wanted to sleep with Captain James T Kirk and now I can.

Next on the to-do list is to get “beamed up” by Scotty. Dadabulous was also the grateful recipient of these two T-shirts which I am told will be perfect for gaming days with the man posse.

The element of surprise.

The element of surprise.

The festivities at Chez Abulous did not end with Dadabs. P1 had her sixth birthday party on Sunday. After last year’s extravaganza I made a conscious decision to simplify things this time. It proved to be one of the best decisions I’ve made whilst conscious. We had six friends for cake and a trip to the cinema to see Monsters University. I soon discovered to my great delight that eight girls (including Ps 1 & 2) ย is critical mass. They self entertained with only minimal supervision from me. It was the easiest party I’ve ever done. I did however prove sods law with these adorable Mike Wazowski cup cakes. That is – the more ornate (and expensive) the cake the lower the probability that the kids will actually eat it. ย Much sparkly blue and green fondant went to waste.

Despite all the celebrating I managed to complete the first two modules of my TAFE certificate. ย I am keen to get stuck into the course work in a way which contrasts dramatically with my three years studying economics at Sydney University. It seems that having kids is less distracting than two on campus bars and the vast reservoir of crumpet that some people called the School of Engineering. Those lads were keen advocates of cross faculty fraternization. Anyhow in the absence of booze and boys I may just be able to knock this thing over by Christmas.

Next week life will again circumvent my blogging ambitions. Its school holidays and we have school holiday plans. I will report back to you once these plans unfurl.

Have a wonderful week.

* For those new to this blog a crumpet is basically an attractive member of the male species and crumpeteering is the noble art of perving.

* Absolutely not sponsored. What self respecting brand would want to be associated with this blog? Seriously – I really want to know.

  1. Happy birthday to your crew! Love the PJs!! I’ve always wanted to eat at Kingsley’s after having organised many a work function there, where I was not invited, of course. Their loss.

    • Thanks Robo – I’d recommend Kingsleys for a special occasion. Its overpriced but all these places are. Hey – are you going to the next DP drinks? I blew off a school social evening to go!

  2. Ermagherd – how cute are those cupcakes????!!!!

  3. Happy birthday to your brood. My Micky Blue Eyes is turning 50 in August and he doesn’t want to have a party so I’m trying to think of somewhere to just go out for dinner. But we don’t go to any classy establishments, we’re more of the bogan rsl types. Natch.

I took my Mr 9 and 8 of his friends, mostly boys, to the movies for his birthday last year and vowed I’d never do it again. Too much testosterone in one place is not a good thing.

    Love the cup cakes.

Hope you enjoy your school holiday plans. xo

  4. Sounds like you’ve been enjoying yourselves! Those cakes are gorgeous. Usually kids only eat the icing anyway, so maybe you can freeze these and reuse next year? And thanks for reminding me where to shop for Mr Charming’s forthcoming birthday! Enjoy the school holidays x

  5. You’ve got love an easy birthday party, love the cupcakes, the icing would have been the only thing that got eaten here. I am no fan of star trek, but I dig those pjs, and the shirts. Hopefully Ruddy would see fit to send every hard working mother a gardening package of stimulus this year ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. I enjoyed reading what you’ve been up to! Those pjs are pretty cool – and I’m impressed you still managed to serve up some great crumpet! Go you in regards to the TAFE course, you’ll smash it I’m sure. I also simplified birthdays this year – why the hell didn’t we do it sooner!
Oh and of course I missed you B
    Em x

  7. I am guilty of not stopping by for ages and I love your new look!! Love the pjs and t shirts very cool! You must always make time for crumpeteering!!

  8. You had me laughing throughout this- love the rocket surgery shirt and the GOMI reference. Happy birthday to Dadabulous and P1! Good luck with the TAFE course!

  9. I missed you! Love the T-shirts. Had to look up GOMI… I’m new around here. Those cupcakes are amazing, but I am freaked out by the amount of icing. I think I might just have a sugar overload by looking at them.

  10. I missed you! Most excellent cupcakes.

  11. Funny post – thanks for the chuckle! And those Mike cupcakes look fantastic!

  12. Ahh so now I know what all this talk about crumpets is!!! And a mighty fine selection you have chosen as well! Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Sounds like your man was very spoilt! Hope you are enjoying school holidays ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for the laugh.

  14. Mmmm what a fine garden and a very fine looking meal. It’s making me crave red meat. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thank you, thank you, for being further support for my ‘6 for 6’ birthday party theory – I’m still in heated negotiations, for a certain unnamed Man would have 50 people to our house at any available opportunity. The Argyle? It’s a date I hope.

    • The rules are as follows – if the Man wants 50 people over for L’s 6th birthday he must provide a) alcohol and b) a crumpety waiter. Yes I shall be at the Argyle – I’ve blown off a school fund raising evening to be there.

  15. I watched the very crumpet Chris last night. Isn’t he just scrummy in Star Trek? *faints*

Happy Birthday to DadAbs and P1!

    MC x

  16. How awesome are those Trekkie PJs??!
45 year old hubbies just get hawter. Trust me. Mine turned the big 4-5 last year ๐Ÿ˜‰

  17. Sounds like there were happy birthdays all around !!!
That steak looks delicious and those cup cakes …………. ooooh pretty pretty !!! Sorry nobody ate them !
Have the best week and good luck with those TAFE modules !

  18. Sorry I would have commented sooner but I had to scroll back up three times to check out those shears i the first picture. Glad the birthdays all went well despite the gorgeous cakes being rejected. I gave up on the cake thing – too much time and effort for something that gets left on the plate, but I have to admit I am still a sucker for all the other birthday extravaganzas. One day I will learn … or then again. Enjoy the holidays chick and may your sanity be as close to intact as possible by the end of them ๐Ÿ™‚ x

  19. Happy birthday to Dadabulous! Cracks me up that you are both overjoyed by spock PJ’s, because we are sooo far away from that here ๐Ÿ™‚
Loving the very cute cupcakes! Pity so much of them went to waste ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  20. God I LOVE ThinkGeek. I just need a spare thousand bucks and an afternoon online! I went to Monsters Uni with a bunch of teenage boys the other day – and it was their choice ๐Ÿ™‚ I think we all have really fond memories of Monsters Inc (or Monsters Stinks as my youngest used to call it when we watched on VCR. VCR! Took them a while to make a sequel!) And the food looked Nom ๐Ÿ™‚
